Our pain and our struggles are all part of our unique life stories. All too often we suppress and hide the emotional parts of our story. Ignoring these emotions does not make them go away, but if fact, causes them to erupt in other unintended areas of our lives. As an Emotion-focused counselor, I will help you unpack the feelings that may have been buried deep within. We will spend time understanding exactly what you are experiencing and why, because when we feel understood, our struggle to make sense of both our inner and outer world becomes possible. Although we cannot change our pasts, we can create new meaning from past experiences, giving us the opportunity to make needed changes and potentially write a different ending to the story.
I hold a Master’s Degree in Counseling with an emphasis in Addiction Studies. I am experienced in working with individuals struggling with substance use disorder, depression, anxiety, PTSD, bi-polar, grief, chronic pain, parenting issues, and emotional dysregulation. I know that no single approach is the right one for every individual, and so I have also received training in a range of modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Individual Psychology. Furthermore, I have experience working with teens in a residential treatment setting as well as adults in outpatient recovery.
When you come to therapy, you get to drop the pretenses, be vulnerable and explore the fears and feelings that worry you; feelings you can’t even reveal to the people you love. I see it as my role to listen and meet you where you are. I create a safe, peaceful space where you can drop the mask. Your stories, your needs, your darkest hours, and your brightest moments take center stage when you’re in my office. I bring respect, kindness, and compassion so that you feel empowered to make changes in your life. As you get more comfortable talking to me, you will build skills that will enable you to be more compassionate to yourself and others.
